ARE THE TOYS SAFE?

When you shop at Zoologishoppen, you know that the products are safe, that they comply with EU regulations and toy directives, and that production takes place under ethical conditions.

All our suppliers are well-established and serious companies that meet the strict requirements set by the EU for toys in the Toy Directive (2009/48/EC) in its directive EN71- 1/2/3 concerning toys' mechanical and physical properties, flammability and migration of certain elements. They also meet the requirements of REACH - a regulation for the European Union adopted to improve the protection of human health and the environment from risks that can be caused by chemicals.

Toys have very strict legislation that prohibits toxic substances and minimizes the risk of children being harmed by the products. New, legal toys are simply chemically safe products and the risks of playing with them are minimized as far as is reasonably possible.

Plastic contains plasticizers (phthalates). The dangerous phthalates have been banned in toys since 1999 and when new research finds other chemicals that prove problematic, they are added to the list of what is banned or restricted. If you still feel worried, latex (rubber) is an alternative to plastic.

WHY DO THE TOYS COST MORE?

MANUFACTURING

Our suppliers care about the employees and their living situation. They regularly visit and inspect their manufacturers to ensure that working conditions are good, that child labor does not occur, that all employees are treated with respect and that they are paid a living wage. When everyone in the production chain is paid fairly, the final product will cost more.

MATERIALS & ENVIRONMENT

The materials in our toys are of high quality and cost more for suppliers to buy in. Several of our brands strive for environmentally sustainable production and work actively to reduce their carbon footprint.

COUNTRY OF PRODUCTION

Where possible we purchase items produced within the EU rather than China, which increases the cost.

WHAT DOES THE LABEL MEAN?

CERTIFICATION

You have probably heard of many certifications: Fairtrade, FSC, GOTS, Oekotex, etc. Several of our items have various environmental and ethical certifications, but in order to label a product with these, the manufacturer must pay a fee. Many of our suppliers therefore opt out of official labeling of their products. This does not mean that they do not meet the same requirements and comply with the regulations that apply to a producer with e.g. Fairtrade certification - they are just trying to keep the cost down for you as the end customer.

CE marking. For a toy to be legal to sell within the EEA (European Economic Area), it must have a CE mark. The CE mark guarantees that the toy meets all the requirements of the EU's toy directive. Furniture, clothes, blankets, etc. do not need to have CE marking as they are not toys.

Not for children under 3 years/risk of suffocation.
The label, which is a warning, is placed on toys that contain small parts or are considered to be a choking hazard in themselves. Toys that have play value for children under the age of three, such as a mollusk, must not be labeled with this warning. This type of toy must always meet all requirements for toys for children under three years of age.

WASHING AND CARE INSTRUCTIONS?

We try to include washing and care instructions in the description of our products. More specific information appears on the label or carton. In general, surface wash (wipe with a damp cloth) applies to the hard toys, such as wooden toys and hard dolls, etc. and machine wash at 30°C for the soft toys, such as stuffed animals and stuffed animals, etc. We always recommend laundry bags and to avoid tumble dryers. Mainly follow the instructions that come with the article.

We at Zoologishoppen care a lot about our planet and strive for our children to play with things that are of high quality, last a long time and of course are non-toxic. We also ensure that the products have been produced and shipped under decent conditions.

Toys sold within the EU are very tightly regulated and controlled. Everything we sell at Zoologishoppen complies with these strict regulations. We comply with the EU toy directive (2009/48/EC) and standard EN 71-1-2-3.
