Darwin's frog exhibits an unusual behavior that is not known in any other amphibian. The adult males take the eggs in their larynx, where they are protected and grow into tadpoles, then into young frogs ready to fend for themselves.
Description Darwin's frog (Rhinoderma rufum) is listed as critically endangered - possibly already extinct in the wild - having not been recorded in the wild since 1981, despite intensive surveys.
