Fallow deer (Dama dama) is a deer that is smaller than the red deer.
The fallow deer is originally from the Mediterranean area, but is widespread across central Europe and was introduced to Britain by the Romans. During the 16th century, they were planted on several royal hunting grounds and have since spread throughout northern Europe.
