There are five known species of sawfish. One lives near Florida and four near northern Australia. These places are the sawfish's last strongholds. Sawfish are found in other places too, such as Sudan, Papua New Guinea and Bangladesh, but are well on their way to extinction there. The sawfish used to be widespread in warm waters over large parts of the earth, but today it is an uncommon sight in most places.
