Nifflers are rodent-like creatures native to Britain that are attracted to shiny things, making them excellent animals for finding treasure, a trait highly valued by Goblins. Newt Scamander owned a Niffler that escaped twice from his suitcase during his visit to New York in 1926 and attempted to rob both the Steen National Bank and a jewelry store of many of their valuables.
