Native to central and eastern South America, the hyacinth is the largest known parrot, measuring almost 1 meter from head to tail. They can be purchased as pets but are demanding due to their size and personality and are only suitable for experienced parrot owners.

Description
Unfortunately, due to illegal fishing and loss of habitat, the Hyacinth is classified as a vulnerable species on the conservation status spectrum. Thankfully, it is protected by several laws in many regions, it is endemic as well, and long-term conservation initiatives have been put in place to help stabilize their population.

Current Status Due to trapping and trade issues, the Hyacinth Macaw is now on the Endangered Species List. Several efforts are underway in an attempt to preserve this breed. The trade is heavily regulated and the import of these birds to other countries is monitored.
