Giant octopuses (Architeuthis) are a genus of ten-armed octopuses that are alone placed in the family Architeuthidae. How many species the genus includes is unclear and it may only be one species. Giant octopuses are the largest known invertebrates. Most of these animals are poorly known and the majority of finds consist of dead specimens found washed up on beaches or floating on the surface of the sea.
