Seals are carnivores and many species prefer fish. Others specialize in krill, clams and shells. Seals live mostly socially. The number of animals in a group depends on the species. Almost all seals live in the sea, but to rest and to give birth they come ashore or to ice floes. A layer of fat, which in some species is 10 centimeters thick, protects against the cold. The cats have thick, white fur.
