Typical of the walrus are its two large tusks which can be up to one meter long. On average, the male is 300 cm and the female 260 cm long. The male weighs around 1000 kg and the female around 800 kg. Above the mouth appears a beard of bristly hairs. The skin is folded and it is usually 2 to 4 cm thick. They eat clams, shells, crustaceans and fish. Walruses live in large herds on the coasts of Arctic islands and on the ice around the North Pole.
