The golden age of piracy occurred between 1650-1730 mainly in the Caribbean. It was a bloody, unofficial war at sea where ships with gold and other riches were raided by large pirate fleets. The pirate wars raged around America until the 1720s, when regular military forces finally drove the pirates from American waters.
