Allosaurus may not be as famous as Tyrannosaurus rex, but it was just as feared. With sharp claws, powerful jaws, and razor-sharp teeth, it hunted large herbivores like Stegosaurus in the ancient forests around 150 million years ago.
History
During the late 19th century “Bone Wars,” many fossils were found that were initially given different names, before scientists finally agreed on Allosaurus , which means “different lizard” – a reference to its unique neck and spine vertebrae that were different from anything seen before.
