The fearsomely handsome Hyaenodons were the apex predators of the time, ruling for over 25 million years from the Eocene to the Miocene epochs. Although their name refers to the hyena, the two animals are not closely related. Hyaenodons looked and behaved in a way more akin to modern wolves.

Description
Hyaenodons were widespread at the time of their existence, with species found in Africa, Asia, North America and Europe. Hyaenodon gigor, one of the largest species, was found in Mongolia and lived during the Oligocene Epoch. Hyaenodon could be 3 meters long and have a height at the withers of 1.5 meters and weigh over 450 kg.
