Ichtyosaurus (fish lizard) is an extinct genus of reptile in the order Fish Lizards and the only genus in the family Ichthyosauridae. They lived during the end of the Triassic and the beginning of the Jurassic.

Although Ichthyosaurus was quite dolphin-like in appearance, Ichthyosaurus was actually a marine reptile. These elegant creatures could reach 3.5 meters in length and gave birth to live young.

Description
History:

Ichthyosaurus was discovered by paleontologist Mary Anning in the 19th century. Many complete or nearly complete remains have allowed scientists to have a good idea of what this reptile looked like in life.

Ichthyosaurus was dolphin-shaped in body with a single dorsal fin and a long, narrow beak full of teeth. It had a vertically oriented tail like a fish, and its legs had evolved into fins to propel it through the water. It had enormous eyes, indicating that it probably hunted its prey using its sight.
