As the name suggests, ear seals have ears that are visible on the outside of the head. These usually have a length of 5 cm and end in a tip.
Hearing on land is about as good as human hearing.
Description History:
Sea lions and fur seals have been hunted for a long time, but only in recent centuries has this hunting become a threat to the population. In the 17th century, humans began to systematically kill ear seals. Between 1786 and 1867, up to 2.5 million northern fur seals were slaughtered on the Pribilof Islands.
