The largest frog species native to the United States, the American bullfrog is arguably one of the most iconic types of frog. If you grew up in or ever visited an area that they frequently inhabit, chances are you’ve heard their famous, bellowing croak.

History:
Thankfully, the American bullfrog is not considered threatened, and is in fact one of the most populated frog species in the western hemisphere. The American bullfrog is so well populated that despite being caught commercially as a food source in the southern United States, their overall population continues to climb.
Scientific Name: Lithobates catesbeianus
