Today, it is estimated that there are no more than 1,864 of these black and white bears left, all in China's southwestern bamboo forests. Despite a low number, they have increased from 1600 to 1864 in the last 11 years (latest studies from 2021 from WWF).
Description A shy animal that learns to fend for itself:
The panda is a very shy animal that lives alone. If they hear unknown sounds in their surroundings, they quickly withdraw.
Other pandas it almost only meets during the short mating season which takes place from mid-March to early May. Then the males gather to compete for the females. The mating period is about six weeks, but each female is only susceptible to fertilization for 2-3 days. The pandas are also quite reluctant to mate and relatively few of the pups that are born live to adulthood.
