Reindeer live in extremely cold climates. They have a special coat to keep them warm which also helps them float in water. They are strong swimmers and can cross rivers and ice! They eat lichen called “reindeer moss”.
Description
The reindeer is developed for an Arctic climate. It is small and has short legs, its ears are small and its tail is short and flat. Thanks to this, the reindeer do not lose body heat unnecessarily.
The coat is also adapted to cool the climate by the hair strands locking quickly in others close to the body. At the far end of the skin, a small air condition is left that insulates well against the cold. The reindeer's dense fur means that water runs off it so well that it barely gets wet after it has swum. In deep snow, the reindeer can spread out with their hooves to make it easier to move forward over the snow.
