The sand tiger shark is actually quite docile and not particularly dangerous to humans.

It is usually around 2.2 meters, in rare cases up to 4 meters.

Description
The sand tiger shark occurs in coastal subtropical waters from one meter deep to at least 190 meters deep, but mostly stays at 15-25 meters deep, often near or on the bottom.

Although they appear quite violent with their sharp, exposed teeth and large size, they are relatively slow, peaceful creatures that pose no significant risk to humans.

They hunt mostly at night and their prey consists of fish, including other sharks.

Scientific name: Carcharias taurus

Characteristics:

The sand tiger shark is a chubby and round shark with a rather pointed snout and large fins. Of course it has a mouth full of exposed sharp teeth! The teeth are curved outwards.

Size and Color:

This sand tiger shark is 6 ½ inches long and 1 ¾ inches tall to the tip of its dorsal fin. It is grey-brown above and white below, with reddish-brown spots along the body. Its eyes are yellow with black pupils and the inside of its toothy mouth is pink.

The sand tiger shark is part of the Wild Safari® Sea Life collection.
