The Yeti, also called the Snowman, is an ape-like creature said to live high up in the Himalayan Mountains and the Tibetan Plateau.
History
The Yeti is probably, along with the sea monster "Nessie" and its "relative" Bigfoot, the most famous creature in cryptozoology, i.e. the research into animals that are claimed to exist but where there is no scientific evidence that the animals actually exist. The name Yeti is believed to come from the Tibetan words yeh-teh, meaning "rock bear".
Story
Stories about the Yeti have been told by Tibetans and Sherpas for hundreds of years. Stories about similar creatures, "wild men" etc. are also found in many other places around the world. In the West, the creature was first heard of in the 19th century when the British gradually began to explore the Himalayas. In 1889, the first newspaper reports appeared of footprints of an unknown two-legged humanoid creature that lived high up in the Himalayas. The local guides are said to have told about the creature, unknown in the West, and given relatively detailed descriptions of what the Yeti looked like.
Features: This Yeti figure strikes its best scary pose, its claws splayed and its mouth wide open to reveal its teeth. Its body is covered in detailed fur texture, from its pointed ears to its fluffy feet.
